🌕 Cancer Full Moon (Wolf Moon)

13°23’ Cancer | January 3, 2026 | 2:03 am PST

This Cancer Full Moon opens the year with tenderness, luminosity, and depth. She is in her home sign, where the Moon is at her most intuitive, protective, and emotionally attuned.

Adding to her presence, this is a Super Moon — extra close to Earth, appearing larger and brighter in the sky — amplifying our feelings, memories, and longing for connection.

Like last month, this Moon is also out of bounds, moving beyond the Sun’s usual path. When the Moon is out of bounds, emotions don’t simply ebb and flow — they spill over. Sensitivity is heightened, instincts are stronger, and our inner worlds ask to be taken seriously.

The Wolf Moon: Instinct, Memory, and Belonging

This Cancer Full Moon is traditionally known as the Wolf Moon, a name rooted in Native American and early colonial folklore. During the deep snows of winter, wolves were observed moving closer to settlements, their howls echoing through the long nights. Hunger and survival brought them nearer to warmth, community, and sustenance.

Symbolically, the Wolf Moon reminds us of our instinctual nature — the part of us that seeks safety, nourishment, and belonging when the outer world feels cold or uncertain. Under this Moon, our emotional needs may feel louder, but they are also clearer. There is wisdom in listening.

A Rare Blessing: Venus, Mars, and the Sun

One of the most beautiful features of this Full Moon is the configuration of Venus and Mars in Capricorn, flanking the Sun. The Sun sits close to the midpoint of the sacred lovers, while the Moon in Cancer directly opposes that midpoint — bringing emotional awareness to matters of relationship, devotion, and commitment.

This alignment has been building for weeks and culminates just days later, when Venus and Mars unite on January 7, 2026 at 6:43 pm PST. Their conjunction with the Sun is rare — the last time this occurred was in 2006 — and it signals a potent reset in how we integrate sacred feminine and sacred masculine energies within ourselves and in our relationships.

Adding to the blessing, Luna will trine Venus and Mars from Virgo at the time of their union, offering grounding, grace, and practical support. This is a moment of integration — where love meets purpose, and feeling meets form.

Jupiter’s Embrace: Emotional Expansion

The Moon is conjunct Jupiter in Cancer, a profoundly supportive and protective influence. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, and his presence magnifies themes of care, generosity, ancestral memory, and emotional wisdom. Feelings may swell — but so can compassion, gratitude, and a sense of being held.

This conjunction encourages us to widen our emotional capacity without overwhelming ourselves. It reminds us that nurturing is not weakness; it is strength.

🌕 Wolf Moon Grounding Ritual

Tonight, the night of the Full Moon, or within the next few days, take a few moments to step outside or sit by a window. Place one hand on your heart and one on your belly (your Hara), and take three slow, nourishing breaths.

As you inhale, imagine the Moon’s soft light filling your body with calm and reassurance. As you exhale, release anything that feels heavy, unspoken, or unresolved.

You may wish to silently offer gratitude for what has sustained you through the darker months. Trust that you are held, and that you do not have to do everything alone.

Out of Bounds, Yet Supported

You may notice that while the Sun and Moon are harmoniously connected to the lunar nodes (trine and sextile), and therefore not in the bendings as they were last month, the Moon remains out of bounds.

At a declination of 27°04’ North, she travels well beyond the Sun’s boundary of 23°27’. This means that although the larger karmic storyline feels more stable and supported, our emotional experience remains heightened and personal.

In other words: the path forward is clearer — but our hearts are still tender.

This is not something to fix or suppress. It’s something to honor gently.

Closing Reflections

This is a Moon that asks us to soften without dissolving, to feel deeply without becoming unmoored. Be especially kind to yourself and your fellow earthlings. Emotions may surface unexpectedly, memories may stir, and the desire for closeness may feel stronger than usual.

You are not regressing — you are remembering!

As we begin this new year, may you allow yourself the nourishment you so freely offer others. There is beauty in tending the hearth of your inner life.

With so much love,

Elise 💖
