🌑 Virgo New Moon ~ Clearing Space for What Comes Next

And just like that...
We are officially out of eclipse season.
After the Leo Solar Eclipse invited us to reconsider sovereignty and the Pisces Lunar Eclipse asked us to remember the larger dream, Virgo arrives with considerably less ceremony.
I'm picturing her throwing open the windows and letting the sunlight pour in, dust broom in one hand and lemon-scented cleansing spray in the other.
“Beautiful dreams,” she says.
“Now... what are we going to do with them?”
There is something wonderfully grounding about this New Moon.
We've spent the past month contemplating leadership, humanity, consciousness, service, Utopia, and the world we're collectively creating.
Virgo brings us back to the kitchen table.
The calendar.
The bank statement.
The refrigerator.
The body.
The inbox.
The unfinished project sitting patiently on the corner of the desk.
Not because the dream has become less important.
Because the dream needs infrastructure.
Perhaps this New Moon isn't asking us to envision something entirely new.
Perhaps it's asking us to create the conditions in which what we've already envisioned can actually flourish.
🌾 Trash or Treasure?
Virgo is the great discerner.
She notices what works and what doesn't. What nourishes and what depletes. What belongs and what has simply remained because no one has gotten around to questioning it.
After eclipse season, that discernment feels especially useful.
Eclipses have a way of stirring the waters. They reveal. Accelerate. Unsettle. Illuminate. Sometimes they leave us with insights we understand immediately, and sometimes we don't recognize what changed until much later.
Now Virgo walks through the aftermath asking:
What remains useful?
What needs repair?
What needs simplifying?
What has completed its purpose?
What deserves more of your attention?
What has been taking up precious physical, emotional, financial, or energetic real estate simply because you've become accustomed to its presence?
It's time to get our ducks in a row and play a little game of Trash or Treasure with every domain of our lives.
And no, that doesn't necessarily mean hauling half the contents of your home to Goodwill. 😄
Perhaps the clutter is a commitment.
A habit.
A belief.
A subscription.
A relationship dynamic.
A business practice.
An overflowing inbox.
A way of caring for everyone else while placing yourself perpetually at the bottom of the list.
Virgo reminds us:
Discernment is an act of love.
Every meaningful yes requires some corresponding no.
✨ From Dream to Devotion
I've been thinking about the progression of these three lunations.
The Leo Solar Eclipse asked:
Who are you when the applause stops?
The Pisces Lunar Eclipse asked:
What dream have you almost stopped believing in?
And now Virgo asks:
What are you willing to tend?
Because dreaming is beautiful.
But eventually the book needs to be written.
The garden needs watering.
The body needs nourishing.
The business needs systems.
The relationship needs attention.
The spiritual practice needs to become something we actually practice.
This is where Virgo's much-maligned perfectionism can reveal its higher expression.
At her best, Virgo isn't obsessed with flawlessness.
She is devoted to refinement.
There is a profound difference.
Perfectionism says:
It isn't good enough.
Refinement asks:
How might this serve better?
One contracts us.
The other invites evolution.
And perhaps that is Virgo's real medicine.
🌑 The New Moon Sextiles Mars: Do Something
The New Moon forms a harmonious sextile with Mars in Cancer.
I love this.
Virgo can sometimes become so occupied with analyzing the correct course of action that she remains standing beside the perfectly alphabetized supply cabinet contemplating which label maker would be most efficient.
Mars says:
Begin.
And Mars in Cancer adds another layer.
Act on behalf of what you care about.
Protect what nourishes you.
Create structures that support your home, your family, your body, your emotional wellbeing, and the things you're trying to bring into the world.
The question isn't merely:
What should I organize?
It's:
What do I love enough to care for well?
♇ Pluto ~ Don't Just Organize the Clutter
The New Moon also forms a sesquiquadrate with Pluto in Aquarius.
Unlike the easy movement of the sextile to Mars, the sesquiquadrate carries friction. Something may be pressing for change that can't be solved simply by rearranging the pieces.
And Pluto isn't particularly interested in cosmetic improvements.
Virgo may walk into the room intending to organize the closet.
Pluto asks:
“But why are you still keeping that?”
And suddenly we're no longer talking about the closet.
This can be a powerful New Moon for noticing where we've been managing something that may actually need to be transformed—or released altogether.
A habit that has become a coping mechanism.
A system that no longer serves the people it was designed to serve.
A pattern of control disguised as efficiency.
A commitment we've continued maintaining long after its purpose has expired.
A way of working that looks functional from the outside but is quietly draining the life out of us.
With Pluto in Aquarius, some of these questions extend beyond our individual lives into the systems, technologies, communities, and collective structures we're creating.
Are we making dysfunctional systems more efficient—or are we willing to imagine better systems?
That's a very different question.
And perhaps it brings us back to our game of Trash or Treasure.
Some things need organizing.
Some things need repairing.
Some things need refining.
And some things, with love and gratitude for whatever purpose they once served, simply need to go.
⚡ Uranus Stations Retrograde
And as though September 10 weren't already busy enough, Uranus stations retrograde in Gemini on the very same day, at 5°42' Gemini. It will remain retrograde until February 8, 2027.
A station concentrates a planet's symbolism, and Uranus isn't exactly known for quietly taking a seat in the corner.
Uranus awakens.
Disrupts.
Liberates.
Invents.
In Gemini, the revolution is happening through information, communication, learning, technology, language, and the ways our minds connect ideas.
Its retrograde passage gives us an opportunity to reconsider some of the changes that have accelerated since Uranus entered Gemini.
Which innovations are actually making life better?
Which technologies are serving us, and which are quietly training us to serve them?
What information deserves our attention?
What does not?
How do we remain curious without becoming scattered?
Given the conversations many of us are having about AI, technology, attention, environmental resources, and the rapidly changing ways humans communicate, those feel like remarkably timely questions.
Innovation without discernment isn't necessarily progress.
Virgo would like to see the receipts.
☿ Mercury Changes Signs
Mercury rules this New Moon, which makes his condition especially important.
And on the very day of the lunation, Mercury leaves his home sign of Virgo and enters Libra.
We've gathered the information.
We've analyzed the details.
Now Mercury in Libra asks:
How do we bring the pieces into relationship?
How do we communicate what we've discovered?
How do we listen to another perspective without abandoning our own?
How do we create solutions elegant enough to account for more than one person's needs?
And Mercury is moving through a remarkable conversation with the outer planets. As he enters Libra, he moves into supportive trines with Pluto in Aquarius and Uranus in Gemini, while also engaging Neptune in Aries.
The mind is being asked to stretch beyond its familiar architecture.
Virgo gathers the pieces.
Libra sees their relationship.
Uranus discovers another possibility.
Pluto asks whether the underlying system itself needs transformation.
This is excellent energy for rethinking how something works.
Not merely polishing the existing system.
Perhaps rebuilding it.
💗 Venus Enters Scorpio... and She's Coming Back
Venus also changes signs on September 10, leaving her home sign of Libra and entering Scorpio.
And this ingress deserves an asterisk.
Venus has already entered the territory she will revisit during her upcoming retrograde. Her pre-retrograde shadow began August 31 at 22°52' Libra. She stations retrograde on October 3 at 8°29' Scorpio, returns to Libra on October 25, and stations direct on November 13 at 22°52' Libra. She finally leaves the retrograde shadow in mid-December.
So while we'll explore Venus retrograde much more deeply in October, she's already beginning to introduce the material.
Love.
Money.
Beauty.
Desire.
Relationships.
Self-worth.
Values.
What we attract.
What we're willing to receive.
And what we may have outgrown.
Scorpio isn't particularly interested in polite surface answers.
She wants to know:
What do you truly value now?
What is asking to be healed?
What needs renegotiating?
What have you been pretending doesn't matter when it actually matters enormously?
Venus retrograde periods are wonderful for revisiting, reassessing, repairing, reclaiming, and refining these areas.
I tend to be considerably more cautious about making irreversible Venusian decisions during the retrograde itself.
If possible, I wouldn't choose that period to get married, make an enormous discretionary purchase, radically and permanently alter one's appearance, or make another major Venus-ruled commitment that can reasonably wait.
Not because Venus retrograde guarantees disaster. It doesn't.
Although I do know a couple who married during Venus retrograde, and I remember wishing they had reached out to me before choosing their wedding date. Their marriage ultimately ended.
Was Venus retrograde the reason? Of course not. A marriage—and its ending—is far more complex than any single astrological signature.
But if we're fortunate enough to have a choice about when we begin something intended to last, I believe in choosing the most supportive cosmic weather available.
And during Venus retrograde, I tend to counsel patience—not because something must go wrong, but because our relationship to what we value is itself under review.
Why sign the final version while you're still editing the manuscript?
🌀 The Subtler Mathematics
Alongside the New Moon's sextile to Mars and sesquiquadrate to Pluto, there are subtler harmonic conversations with Saturn and Uranus through the septile family.
I wouldn't interpret these as loudly as the Mars sextile, Pluto sesquiquadrate, or Uranus station. They feel more like currents beneath the surface.
Septile-family aspects often carry a quality of meaningful turning points, choices, or encounters with something that doesn't submit neatly to rational analysis.
That is rather interesting in a Virgo chart.
Virgo wants the spreadsheet.
The septiles whisper:
Not everything important can be put in a spreadsheet.
Perhaps the task is to bring discernment to what we intuit without demanding that intuition become something it isn't.

Virgo appreciates specificity.
Your nervous system appreciates kindness.
Let's give them both.

There is a brief initial window on September 10, beginning with the New Moon at 8:27 PM and continuing until 10:52 PM, as the Moon applies toward its harmonious sextile with Mars.
If that's too late for you, don't force it.
The subsequent Libra Moon isn't my favorite intention window for this particular lunation because of its eventual closing square to Mars.
Your next lovely window begins after the Moon enters Scorpio late September 13 at 11:44 PM, continuing until September 15 at 8:30 PM, when she forms a sextile with the Virgo Sun.
Another earthy opportunity arrives with the Capricorn Moon beginning September 18 at 9:55 PM, and lasts until she trines the Sun on September 21 at 7:31 AM.
And as always, don't allow the pursuit of perfect electional timing to become the thing that prevents you from setting the intention.
That would be such a Virgo problem. 😂
🌾 Tend the Life You Want to Live
Perhaps the past month has shown us something.
Leo reminded us that our light doesn't require applause.
Pisces reminded us that the dream matters.
And Virgo reminds us:
The dream must be tended.
Not perfectly.
Consistently.
Lovingly.
One drawer.
One conversation.
One meal.
One boundary.
One page.
One invoice.
One walk.
One conscious choice at a time.
There is something profoundly spiritual about caring well for the ordinary pieces of a human life. We don't have to transcend the mundane. We can make the mundane sacred through the quality of attention we bring to it.
Perhaps that's Virgo's particular kind of magic.
She doesn't merely throw open the windows and clear away the residue of eclipse season. She looks around at the newly cleared space and asks:
What deserves to live here now?
