☀️ Leo Solar Eclipse ~ When the Door Opens

And just like that...
Eclipse season is upon us!
This one is potent!
The Sun is traveling through Leo, the sign he rules, radiating Leo's warmth, creativity, generosity, courage, playfulness, and unmistakable desire to fully inhabit life.
And then... his light disappears.
For a few extraordinary minutes, the Moon moves between Earth and the Sun and daylight itself is interrupted.
There is something profoundly symbolic about that.
Leo is often associated with shining.
But perhaps this eclipse asks a deeper question:
Who are you when the applause stops?
Who are you when external validation disappears?
Who are you when the familiar light goes dark long enough for another truth to become visible?
This feels less like an eclipse about performing our radiance... and more like an invitation to remember where our radiance comes from.
That is sovereignty.
Not domination.
Not superiority.
Not needing to be crowned by anyone else.
Simply the willingness to inhabit the fullness of who we are.
✨ A Door Where None Seemed to Exist
This eclipse belongs astronomically to Saros Cycle 126 and, in Bernadette Brady's
system, to Saros Series 10 South.
Brady describes this family as carrying the potential to suddenly break free from circumstances that have felt deeply negative or without resolution. Something that has caused considerable worry may clear, revealing options that weren't previously visible.
I find that profoundly hopeful.
Not because an eclipse promises that someone will arrive and solve our problems for us.
But because sometimes the shift we need begins with seeing something differently.
A door appears.
An idea arrives.
A conversation changes everything.
A possibility that had been invisible suddenly becomes obvious.
And once we see the opening... we still have to walk through it.
That feels very Leo.
Courage isn't merely knowing another possibility exists.
It's choosing it.
🌑 The South Node: What Are You Willing to Leave Behind?
There is another fascinating paradox woven into this eclipse.
A Solar Eclipse occurs at a New Moon, traditionally associated with beginnings. Yet this eclipse occurs with the South Node, newly arrived in Leo, a point associated with release, completion, and patterns we've already thoroughly inhabited.
So perhaps this isn't a simple new beginning.
A Solar Eclipse invites something new while the South Node releases.
Perhaps something new becomes possible precisely because we're finally willing to put something old down.
In Leo, that may mean releasing an outdated identity, a role we've outgrown, the need for approval, or an old understanding of what it means to be seen.
The invitation isn't to diminish Leo's magnificent light. Quite the opposite. We carry forward its courage, creativity, generosity, and heart while releasing whatever has made that light dependent upon applause.
With the North Node now in Aquarius, the evolutionary invitation turns toward community, collaboration, and our contribution to something larger than ourselves.
From shining so that we may be seen... to shining because our light has something to give.
And perhaps that's the beautiful contradiction at the heart of this eclipse:
Release and beginning are not opposites.
Sometimes letting go is how the door opens.
👑 When the King Learns to Serve
For more than two thousand years, Regulus, the Heart of the Lion and one of astrology's great royal stars, traveled through tropical Leo. In 2011, precession carried Regulus across the threshold into Virgo, the sign of discernment, humility, and service.
This is the first passage of the South Node through Leo since that historic transition.
There is something exquisitely symbolic about a South Node Solar Eclipse now asking us to reconsider old expressions of Leo just as Leo's great royal star has begun its long journey through the sign of service.
For centuries, leadership has often been associated with hierarchy, status, power, privilege, and being served.
But perhaps Regulus in Virgo whispers another possibility:
What if true leadership isn't about being served?
What if a true leader serves?
Not servitude. Not martyrdom. Not making ourselves smaller.
Service.
The willingness to cultivate our gifts and then place them in service to something greater than ourselves.
And with the North Node now in Aquarius, that symbolism becomes even more compelling. We aren't being asked to extinguish Leo's magnificent individuality as we move toward the Aquarian collective. We are being invited to bring our creativity, courage, generosity, and heart with us.
We don't become less ourselves in service to humanity. We become more fully ourselves, and offer that self to the world.
Like the songbird who sings simply because she has a song.

And the forest is changed because she does.

Solutions may arrive sideways.

Unexpected invitations.
Odd synchronicities.
The idea that initially sounds a little crazy may contain precisely the breakthrough you've been asking for.

Neptune adds inspiration, imagination, and spiritual sensitivity, but also asks for discernment.
Not every vision is guidance.
Not every fear is prophecy.
Not every compelling story is true.
Allow yourself to dream while remaining anchored in your body and your own inner knowing.

Yet Leo asks us not to abandon ourselves in order to maintain peace.

An eclipse does not necessarily mean that something dramatic happens on August 12.
Think of it more like a stone dropping into water.
The exact eclipse is the impact point.
The ripples may continue spreading for months.
🌑 Solar Eclipse Intentions ~ Less Doing, More Being
Normally, a New Moon is one of my favorite times to consciously plant intentions.
Eclipses are different.
They carry enough intensity of their own.
Rather than conducting a traditional New Moon ceremony during this eclipse, I invite you to create spaciousness.
Observe.
Listen.
Rest.
Journal if you feel called.
Meditate.
Spend time in nature.
And perhaps most importantly... hold space for the world you want to wake up in.
We don't always need to tell the Universe precisely how the next chapter should unfold.
Sometimes the wiser practice is to become quiet enough to notice what is trying to reveal itself.
With the partial lunar eclipse following on August 27–28, I would personally allow this entire eclipse portal to remain more receptive than directive.
Let yourself edit.
Release.
Listen.
Notice.
There will be time to seed.

🌞 The Wonder of Totality
As I send this out, today's eclipse has already swept across the Earth.
For those fortunate enough to have stood within the path of totality, I imagine there will be stories to tell.
I can still remember standing beneath the Great American Eclipse of 2017. There are certain experiences that move beyond words.
The light changes.
The temperature drops.
Animals respond.
The familiar world suddenly becomes otherworldly.
And for a few extraordinary moments, you're reminded that we live on a small planet moving through an unimaginably vast cosmos.
Wonder has a way of restoring perspective.
And if witnessing a Total Solar Eclipse is something you've always dreamed of experiencing, we have almost a year to plan for an extraordinary one.
On August 2, 2027, the Moon's shadow will begin its journey across the Atlantic, sweep through the region of the Strait of Gibraltar, cross portions of North Africa and Egypt, continue eastward across the Arabian Peninsula, and eventually move toward the Indian Ocean.
And here's the remarkable part:
Near the point of greatest duration, totality will last more than six minutes. NASA calculates a maximum of approximately 6 minutes, 23 seconds.
Imagine that.
Six minutes beneath the shadow of the Moon.
And for anyone whose imagination is already packing a suitcase, Luxor, Egypt, will experience approximately 6 minutes and 22 seconds of totality.
Ancient temples.
The Nile.
The Valley of the Kings.
And a Total Solar Eclipse.
Just saying. 😉☀️🌑
If you've ever wanted to stand beneath one of nature's most breathtaking celestial events, perhaps August 2, 2027 deserves a little circle on your calendar.
👑 Sovereignty ~ The Light That Comes From Within
Whether this eclipse touches one of your planets or sensitive degrees directly or not, I believe it carries an invitation for all of us.
To reconsider sovereignty.
For centuries, sovereignty was associated with crowns, thrones, governments, and those granted authority over others.
But perhaps humanity is ready for a different understanding.
Sovereignty begins within.
It is the ability to hear your own wisdom beneath the noise.
To remain open without becoming easily manipulated.
To love without abandoning yourself.
To question without becoming cynical.
To lead without needing followers.
To shine without diminishing anyone else's light.
And perhaps that is why this eclipse occurs in Leo.
When the Sun temporarily disappears... we are reminded that its light has not actually gone anywhere.
It has merely been obscured.
Perhaps the same is true of us.
There may be moments when we lose sight of our courage, our joy, our creativity, or our sense of possibility.
That doesn't mean the light has disappeared.
Sometimes... we simply need the darkness to remember where it lives.
Perhaps sovereignty isn't about being the brightest light in the room. It is about no longer requiring the room to tell us that we shine.
True sovereignty asks us to become responsible for our own light, our choices, our gifts, and the way we use them.
This Leo Solar Eclipse, with the South Node newly returned to Leo for the first time since Regulus crossed into Virgo, offers us a remarkable symbolic threshold. An ancient royal star has moved from the sign of the King into the sign of service, while the nodal axis now points from individual Leo toward collective Aquarius.
Perhaps we're being invited to reconsider what it means to lead.
Not power over.
Not visibility for visibility's sake.
Not applause.
Service.
A true leader doesn't need everyone else to become smaller so that they can stand tall.
A true leader serves.
And perhaps that is one expression of sovereignty whose time has come.
