The Virgo Solar Eclipse & Libra Equinox: Refinement, Release & Renewal

The Eclipse – A Turning Point at the Anaretic Degree

On September 21, 2025 at 12:42 pm PDT, the Sun and Moon join at the final degree of Virgo—the anaretic, or 29th degree—ushering in a Solar Eclipse that invites deep release and karmic refinement.

This eclipse is visible in parts of eastern Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, and the South Pacific, but its energetic ripples will be felt everywhere!

Solar eclipses are New Moons amplified—seeding moments that carry the intensity of destiny. Yet because this eclipse aligns with the South Node, its gift comes through letting go.

Something must be released before the new can take form.

Bringing its lessons full circle, the last degree of Virgo asks: What is ready to be refined, completed, or released so that your next chapter can truly begin?

The Eclipse Aspects – The Sky Speaks in Patterns

This is a potent web of alignments:

  • Conjunct Mercury in Libra – words carry weight; communication holds the key to balance.

  • Semisextile Mars at 29° Libra – subtle but urgent action wants to break through.

  • Quintile Jupiter in Cancer – creative solutions arise through care, family, and belonging.

  • Tightly opposite Saturn in Pisces – responsibilities press us toward maturity and discipline.

  • Trine Uranus in Gemini – breakthroughs and awakenings are within reach if we stay open.

  • Opposite Neptune in Aries – illusion and truth wrestle; clarity requires faith.

  • Trine Pluto in Aquarius – transformation is available, collective and personal.

This eclipse belongs to Saros Cycle 154 (9 New South). Astrologer Bernadette Brady describes this series as surfacing long-term worries about health, loved ones, or responsibilities with communication and paperwork.

News that arrives now may feel destined, reminding us that some matters cannot be ignored.

🌿  Who feels it most?

Those with planets or sensitive points between 27°–29° of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) and 0°–1° of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) are most activated.

The Invitation of Eclipse Season

Usually, New Moons are excellent for setting intentions. But during eclipses, the energy is too wild, too fated.

Think of it as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice moment—what you set in motion now could spiral in ways you can’t control. Instead, let this be a time of awareness, witnessing, and release.

✨  Mark your calendar:

The first strong intention-setting windows arrive after eclipse season ends—when the Sun is more than 18° from the South Node.

  • Sept 29 (Moon in Capricorn 2:55 am – Oct 1, 8:33 am): Excellent for structure, commitments, and grounding.

  • Oct 1 (Moon in Aquarius 12:51 pm – Oct 3, 11:15 am): Perfect for clarity, rationality, and visioning.

Where the Eclipse Lands for You (by Rising Sign)

(Use your rising sign if known; otherwise, read your Sun sign)

  • Aries Rising: Health, habits, and daily work. Release old patterns of perfectionism.

  • Taurus Rising: Romance, creativity, and children. Let go of old stories about worthiness.

  • Gemini Rising: Home, family, and ancestry. Release inherited burdens and outdated routines.

  • Cancer Rising: Communication, siblings, and learning. Clear the clutter of old thought patterns.

  • Leo Rising: Finances, possessions, and self-worth. Release scarcity and reclaim value.

⚖️The Libra Equinox – A Cosmic Balancing Point

On September 22, 2025 at 11:19 am PDT, less than a day after the eclipse, the Sun crosses the celestial equator and day and night stand in perfect balance. The Libra Equinox is always a turning point, a sacred pause of equal light and dark.

This year, the Equinox echoes the eclipse aspects almost exactly, layering balance, truth, and renewal onto the eclipse themes. The Equinox reminds us: balance is not static—it is a living dance.

Reflections on These Times

We live in a moment when old structures are crumbling. Some of what collapses is long overdue. Yet at times, it feels as though even what’s precious—like free speech and democratic principles—is being dismantled before our eyes.

When a leader declares, in essence, “Criticism is not allowed,” it echoes the very shadows we’re being asked to see clearly—and to outgrow.

And yet… beneath the chaos, there is order unfolding. We are in the midst of the most pivotal turning point in human history, where paradox is our teacher: the breaking down of what no longer serves, alongside the discomfort of watching things we value shaken loose.

It reminds me of when my mother sent my father (then in chemo) to the store for basics. He came back not with the milk and eggs—but with pickled herring!

The medicine was killing both the bad and the good, and his exotic shopping choices reflected that strange mix of destruction and unexpected delight. To this day, whenever I see or think of pickled herring, I think of Dad—and the strange gift of those times.

My father lived nine more years beyond his “six months” prognosis, gifting me a teenage immersion in metaphysics. From him I learned (among other things): thoughts become things, and what we focus on expands.

So in these chaotic times, let us be conscious about what we're giving our attention to and remember: to rage against the old only gives it more energy.

Instead, let us be deliberate about what we are seeding with our focus. Let us choose gratitude, beauty, and vision. For while the old world clamors for attention, we are the midwives of the new!

Closing Blessing

This eclipse and equinox ask us to release what no longer serves, refine our lives with care, and step into balance. The old world is falling apart, but together, with intention and vision, we are co-creating the new!
