Coronavirus ~ We Were Made for Days Like These

It’s been a little while, I know, since my last post. Life has been happening in William’s and my world in a big way…in late January, William’s father, Jack (93), left us after about 6 months of being bed-ridden. John Norris Hicks was one of a kind and lived a full and very interesting life!

A WWII Veteran, he had many tales to tell of his experiences as a young man in the Navy on the Fanshaw Bay aircraft carrier, an escort for the Enola Gay. He retired from 49 years of service as a Superintendent at L.A. Airways and then LAX. He even drove for Howard Hughes in his much younger days and met several celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor.

He loved flying, golf, badminton, the airport, and of course his family. Dad was a very bright light in our family and will be missed greatly (his full obituary is online via the Holy Cross website). It is times like these that make me so grateful that my own father, who like Jack also served in the South Pacific, taught me so much about life and the universe. This helps me to believe that we will all be together again at the great “wrap party!”

William’s dad left just before all of our worlds got turned upside down with COVID-19. Real life 3D concerns have occupied my time since then…not a lot of time to ponder the heavens, but now that God (in the form of Governor Newsom) has put us on a “timeout,” I have a bit more time to ponder what the language of light through our heavens is telling us…

When I saw the historical Saturn/South Node tango in Capricorn that lasted for 6 months last year I knew that we were in for an unprecedented time. Capricorn represents the societal structures in our lives…government, “the powers that be,” public institutions, etc. What I noted then was that we would bear witness to a karmic dissolving of the structures that no longer serve us. Pluto was also in the mix last year, but this year, as I also pointed out, on January 12th Saturn and Pluto formed their great conjunction at 22°47’ of Capricorn, setting off a cosmic gong that has reverberated through our collective psyches. No doubt that anyone with planets or sensitive points at 21° - 24° of the cardinal signs has likely been feeling the intensity that the “Lords of Karma & The Underworld” are bringing. This is a time when we are being asked to step up and own our power and responsibility in our lives and the world.

I knew that it would be a very intense time, but I didn’t know exactly how it would show up. Since Pluto rules the unseen, it should not be surprising that this has taken the form of a virus, and has majorly affected the fossil fuel industry, which is also ruled by Pluto!

By now it is becoming apparent that this pandemic along with the economic fallout will last for a while. One thing I know is that our world will be very different once this crisis is over…

Hmmm, crisis…the Chinese have a word for "crisis” which is composed of two Chinese characters signifying "danger" and "opportunity.” It can be difficult during times like these to see the opportunity when the invisible danger seems to be ever present, but I will attempt to shine a light on the blessings that are revealing themselves through this challenging time.

One of the silver-linings is that we are being forced like no other time to be very present. Any time that we venture outside we must be extremely vigilant to notice what we’ve touched. Do we have enough wipes? William has a nickname for me, “The Hygienic General.” It’s not my favorite of his pet names, but these days, it applies! This also makes blatantly clear how our actions can affect others…but this applies just as much to an act of kindness or an act of meanness.

Another huge blessing of this “timeout” is that it is offering us the opportunity to reassess our priorities. Given the life-or-death factors of these days, we may be having internal conversations with our own mortality. Why did we choose to incarnate into this particular life? What is our mission? It certainly isn’t to make sure that we have enough toilet paper! Is there some legacy that you are here to leave?

While the future is uncertain, one thing I know to be true is that we were made for these times! Many of us have been rehearsing for lifetimes for this. This is where the rubber meets the road and we get to decide what kind of world we are here to create….

This timeout has been a reset, a reboot, to point out what is not working, from healthcare to economic inequality, like a “societal fasting” (when the body focuses on and repairs the weakest cells)…there is a heightened awareness of the value of our healthcare professionals, service industry workers, and consumers for the economy; traffic, pollution, and waste has gone way down; while telecommuting, working together, unity, and innovation has gone up! Historically, innovation does tend to coincide with pandemics…

For those of you who enjoy statistics and history, William created a spreadsheet on the history of some of the major pandemics. Interestingly, two planets were involved in the timeframes of every single one. In every case, pandemics were sandwiched between the times when Saturn and Pluto were either conjunct, square, or opposite each other! There are obviously many other aspects and factors going on to consider, but you will notice from the chart that we can expect Saturn and Pluto to conjunct, square, or oppose each other every 7 to 9 years, so now is the time to work together to build a healthcare system and an economic system, which can weather any future health or economic crisis…

Both Saturn and Pluto are among the slower moving of our planets. They set off events that can take years to complete. By themselves, Saturn and Pluto coming together would be a lot! Along with Saturn and Pluto joining this year, Jupiter will conjunct Pluto three times: April 4th @ 24°53’, June 29th @ 24°07’, & November 12th @ 22°52’ Capricorn. In addition, we also had and will have Pluto in Capricorn squaring off with Eris (the Goddess of Discord) in Aries five times from January 26th, June 14th, December 10th of this year and August 27th and October 9th of 2021 from the degrees of 23°14’ to 24°18’.

I pray that we won’t be still keeping our distance from our loved ones in the fall of 2021, but we certainly will still be in “interesting times” as we will undoubtedly be in the midst of reassembling some semblance of a financial system!

So here we are, in the middle of the beginning of this crisis…each of us are dealing with matters of great consequence and reassessing our priorities.

Anytime that Pluto is involved we can expect transformation. In a sense we are all caterpillars in our cocoons. Now is the time to employ our own individual co-creative faculties to envision and help to birth the kind of world that we want to live in...

May we all live to witness the New Earth that reveals herself when we come out of our chrysalises!
