Time to Climb That Mountain of Yours ~ Happy Capricorn New Moon!

The countdown began, the champagne corks popped, the fireworks were spectacular, and we wished each other a fantastic 2018, but has it felt like a new year? I don’t know about you, but it just hasn’t felt like one for me, nor for anyone with whom I have spoken. Well, there’s a reason: We haven’t had the Capricorn New Moon yet…that is until today.

Our first New Moon of 2018 invites us to build something tangible in our lives. Of the 10 planets in our cosmos (in astrology, the Sun and the Moon are both considered to be planets) there are 6 planets in Capricorn. That is a lot of earthy ambition!

At 6:17 pm PST, the Sun and Moon join together at 26°54’ Capricorn and will be close enough to Venus and Pluto to give any new projects begun in the next two weeks a potent and propitious launch. The Sun and Moon are sextile Mars in Scorpio, who adds extra forceful and determined intensity. They are also square Uranus for one final time before he moves from Aries into Taurus. This could bring some exciting unexpected news, but as long as we expect the unexpected, we won’t be caught off guard.

This New Moon invites us to resolve the tension of the Uranus in Aries and the Pluto in Capricorn square of the past 5 ½ years. Pluto in Capricorn has been working to transform the power structures in our world, while Uranus in Aries has been asking us to release any inhibitions that keep us from expressing our independent, sovereign selves. Individuals have been waking up to their own voices during Uranus’s visit through the fiery sign of the ram.

With the Sun, Moon, Venus, and Pluto in Capricorn all squaring Uranus, we are empowered to climb our individual mountains without too much concern for what the “neighbors might think.” There is something liberating about this energy. There is also a compelling stillness in the deep of winter. When we take the time to reflect on our own intentions, we can be clear that the intentions that we write during this time will be fertile seeds of new growth for this powerful year ahead.

Ideally you will want to write your New Moon list between 6:17 pm (the time of the New Moon) and 10:30 pm when the Moon conjuncts Venus. Make sure that you write your list before 10:30 pm, because the Moon will be void of course after that. These times are Pacific Standard Time.
